DESCRIPTION: This workshop focuses in depth on the use of extracorporeal shockwave to treat various chronic, canine conditions. We review the mechanism of action, case selection, and practical applications for extracorporeal shockwave with regards to tendinopathies, myelopathies and osteoarthritis. Included is the demonstration and practice of the use of electrohydraulic shockwave without the need of sedation and clinic aids.
Learning Objectives
- The participant will gain an understanding of the mechanisms of action of extracorporeal shockwave
- The participant will understand when it is appropriate to recommend extracorporeal shockwave and how best to prepare patients and clients
- The participant will be introduced to current treatment protocol recommendations for extracorporeal shockwave for tendinopathies, myelopathies and osteoarthritis
- The participant will gain an understanding of the analgesic effects of extracorporeal shockwave and how to incorporate it into a multi-modal analgesia plan for osteoarthritis
- The participant will gain an understanding of the biomechanics of the iliopsoas, biceps brachii, and supraspinatus and how best to utilize extracorporeal shockwave for treatment plans
